You are welcome to attend a WI meeting. Have a look at our calendar to see when the next one’s on.
If you want to tell us you’re coming you can email us, or you can just turn up. We understand it can be daunting coming for the first time, so we will make sure you feel welcome and comfortable.
What will happen when I arrive?
When you arrive, you’ll be welcomed and given a visitor badge. A member or committee member will show you around until it’s time for the start of the meeting at 7:30 pm. Don’t worry if you’re late – there will be seats available at the back, so you can just slip in quietly!
What happens at the meeting?
Usually, our President will give notices and invite other members to speak if they have WI news to share (such as an outing). Then we have a speaker who talks for about an hour. Afterwards, we have tea and cake – and a chance to chat!
Sometimes we don’t have a speaker – we’ll have a social event with craft or games, and plenty of tasty food. Once a year, in November, it’s our AGM which is members only.
What do I need to bring?
Please help us save on the washing up and bring your own coffee mug.
What about my special needs?
A number of our members have special needs or a disability and are accommodated without fuss. If you would like to request something specific, please email us so we can make sure you can participate fully.
There’s step-free access to the building and you can sit where you like in the hall. You can leave whenever you want. If you need to bring a carer with you, they won’t be charged for the visit, but they’ll still get tea and cake!
Do I have to join?
We invite you to attend a meeting or two, for free, to see if the WI is right for you. You can see a list of membership benefits here.
If you’d like to join, excellent! All you need to do is fill in our membership form (you can download one here) and bring it to a meeting with your annual subscription fee of £46.
Do I have to do anything?
No. As a visitor, you are invited to our meetings without any obligation. If you choose to join, you’re encouraged to participate in the way that suits you best, but you don’t have to do anything.
Do you sing Jerusalem?
Some meetings do, but ours doesn’t.
I have a question which isn’t answered here
